IT’S the first day of spring, and time to think about putting away your winter jumpers and updating your wardrobe.

But instead of going on a spending spree it’s simple to put a spring twist on your current outfits.

CHECK IT OUT: First, take an inventory of what you already have in your cupboards.

You may have forgotten about some pieces that are perfect for spring.

Have a big try-on session and see what you can create.

SWAP SHOP: Invite a friend over and see if you can swap some of your current items to make new spring outfits.

Another low-cost option is to check out the many Facebook swapping groups.

Start with The Great British Clothes Swap group.

It has 22,000 members who are encouraged to swap similar-value items or offer items for under £10, with many listing bundles of clothing at that price.

BE BOLD: If you have lots of clothes in dark colours, think about whether you could add a cheap, bright accessory to help create a new outfit from an existing winter one.

A bright belt, or colourful necklace can make all the difference.

GET LIPPY: Another way to make an outfit look different is to add a bright lipstick or pop of blush.

A bright orange or pink lipstick can update a look, or a hot peach blush can keep things fresh.

Accessorise differently.

Head to charity shops and seek out silk scarves or pashminas in bright colours to add to bags and coats.

A bright silk scarf can be tied to handbag handles, which is a big trend for this season.

A bright pashmina or scarf in a light material can give your winter coat a new lease of life for spring.
