HIRING and firing is what Thursday nights are all about on the telly.
And with The Apprentice in full swing, it’s a great time to look at cost-effective measures when it comes to job-hunting.

Think smart and save with these hints . . .
REDO YOUR CV: Need a helping hand with an up-to-date CV? Head to reed.co.uk/career-advice for great tips, plus a free CV template. Or register with free site Canva.com, which has great, modern CV templates to try.
READ ALL ABOUT IT: Check out our Sunemployment pages, so you hear about all the latest job openings first. See jobs.thesun.co.uk for up-to-the-minute vacancies.
GET SMART: With most interviews happening virtually, you don’t need to buy a lot to look smart on camera. Timpsons Dry Cleaners will dry clean an interview outfit for free if you are unemployed.
Just pop into their store and have a chat with their staff. If you do need a new shirt, head to vouchercodes.co.uk/tmlewin.co.uk to take advantage of free delivery on all orders until March 31.
BRUSH UP YOUR SKILLS: Coursera.org has a big range of free courses available.
VIDEO COOL: To look your best for an on-camera interview, the right lighting is key. One way to look professional is to get a ring light – you can bag one from Wowcher for just £7.99, reduced from £29.99! To make do without spending anything, place your laptop in front of a table lamp or desk lamp, or sit near natural light.
TRAVEL TIPS: If you have to use public transport to get to a face-to-face interview, talk to your train operator.
Most have a Way To Work Scheme, such as West Midlands trains, who offer up to six day travel vouchers to interviews and up to three months’ free rail travel to a new job, placement or internships, depending on your circumstances. Check your local train operator website to see if you qualify.
